1. Querer means to want:
Quiero un coche nuevo (I want a new car)
Quiero salir de aquí ( I want to get out of here)
It can also be used as the verb "to love" but a bit softer in meaning:
Quiero a mis padres.
2. Desear means to wish:
Deseo que seas feliz (I wish you are happy)
