Is this word common in speech?
Could you give me example using the following expression?
"Someone(He/she/I/ you) hastens to <verb>"
Would it sound weird if I said I hasten to <verb> instead of I hurried to <verb>?

The phrase 'I hasten to add' is often used in some formal or academic circles. It is used to clarify any misunderstanding which might lead on from something someone has just said.
Example:
"I drink a lot every day" said Jane, "a lot of water, I hasten to add!"
