động từ + xem ; động từ + thử xem; thử + động từ + xem Hello ^_^ I have a new vietnamese question! When someone adds "xem" or "thử xem" after a verb, what exactly does it mean? Example: Chị nghĩ xem việc đó có nên làm không ? (Tôi không hiểu câu này đâu) Cam ngon lắm, anh ăn thử xem. Anh thử hỏi ông ấy xem! Anh tìm xem cô ấy ở đâu? (Câu này có nghĩa là gì?) I feel it means like "to see what would be the outcome" Does it make it a soft imperative sentence? Like a suggestion? Cảm ơn rất nhiều!

Yeah, both "xem" and "thử xem" in these sentences mean suggestion "Chị nghĩ xem việc đó có nên làm không?" means "Do you think whether I should do that or not" "Cam ngon lắm, anh ăn thử xem" means "This orange tastes good, you should try!" "Anh thử hỏi ông ấy xem" means "You should/can try asking him" "Anh tìm xem ông ấy ở đâu" means "You should find where he is" (if this is advice) or "Find him!" (if this is an order) As you see, those sentences above mean suggestion and "thử xem" and "xem" mean "try" or "think" (depends on situations). For example: "Chị xem anh ta có dại dột không?" mean "Do you think he was too crazy?" or "Bạn xem thử cái áo này có đẹp không" means "Do you see/think if this shirt is nice?"

I think vert + xem ( xem like a expletive) Ex : cam này ngon lắm, anh thử đi ( đi = xem = expletive)

"xem" you can see it's used in question, listener can agree or deny. And "xem" also means advice about should or shouldn't. "thử xem" means suggetion, invitation. "chị nghĩ xem việc đó có nên làm không" means "she should think again about it" "anh tìm xem cô ấy ở đâu?" means "they want to someone help him where she is" or "they express an opinion that they should rummage her" of couse, "xem" have other means.

don't make it complex, let me keep it simple: -Chị nghĩ xem việc đó có nên làm không ? (Tôi không hiểu câu này đâu) --->"chị nghĩ xem"~ do you think that................. -Cam ngon lắm, anh ăn thử xem.----> "thử"~ "try"(^_^) - Anh thử hỏi ông ấy xem!----> "thử" ~"try" (^_^ )You can also say that: Anh hỏi thử ông ấy xem - Anh tìm xem cô ấy ở đâu? (Câu này có nghĩa là gì?)----> "tìm xem"~ "look for"(^_^) you can also say that: Anh tìm thử xem cô ấy ở đâu

"thử" literally means "try" or "attempt" in English. However, "xem" can be, I repeat, can be considered "how about". Think about those sentences you gave or any kind of example you can come up with, just literally with the definitions I just show you and see it for yourself :).
