Die Lieblingsfarbe meiner Mutter ist blau, why is (my mother) Dativ here? What is this rule called?

The correct sentence should be "Die Lieblingsfarbe meiner Mutter ist blau". "Meine Mutter" (my mother) is Genitiv in this case and not Dativ.
