English figures of speech in Bangla How do I express these ideas in Bangla? "Not quite meeting his gaze." Or "Avoiding his eyes." "Set his jaw." "Snorted dismissively." Are there expressions along these lines in Bangla? If so, what are they? If not, can you help me find alternate ways to convey the emotions involved? For the first one, a soldier does not want to look a prisoner in the eyes because he (the soldier) has just been ordered to kill him (the prisoner). They don't know each other or anything, but in cold blood, and when the soldier isn't sure it's right...he doesn't want to do it, but doesn't dare to disobey orders. For the second one, a man makes a decision that he knows will cost him a great deal, but he is determined to carry it out anyway. For the third one, a man is given a recommendation he considers absurd. Since the recommendation comes from an enemy, he makes no attempt to be polite in his response.

I don't have Bengali keyboard installed on my machine. So can't write in Bengali. Probably these are your answers: Tar drishti eriye komor bedhe nama heshe uriye dewa

Hi, I really doubt if this expressions are being used in Bengali as they are in English. However let me try to help in a way I would use them in conversations. 1) chokh+e chokh na rakha. Or Chokher dike na takano. 2) chowal shokto kora. 3) thatta kore uriye diye. * It would be much easier if you used example with those expression.

Do you mean idioms? 1) Chock eriye (avoiding his gaze) 2) Chowal shokto Kore (hardening his jaws) 3) Hese uriye diye (Laughing dismissively)
