The ice cream truck had a bell to announce he was there in the street or coming.(Ice cream trucks traditionally used to all have bells to announce their arrival. I'm not sure if they still do). The bell is rung much faster than the church bell. Grandfather confused the ice cream truck bell with the church bells and matched his speed/rhythm to that and the speed killed him :)
