Would it be better if I used the dagger-alif? I would prefer to write هاذا instead of هذا ..would Arabic speakers find that weird? Or would I seem well-spoken (that's not what I want..I just don't want to take shortcuts incase I forget how to spell properly). Infact, if I typed in all the vowels, like هَاذَا , would that be weird? Also, how do I type the dagger-alif?

Hi besarlalluvia, To place the Dagger alif in the word هذا is true but rarely used among arabic speakers, though they won't find you weird -don't worry! The spelling of the word هذا is correct even without the alif, but other words like الرحمان should include either the (norma) alif or the dagger alif otherwise the selling is not correct, it's a mistake then. Concerning the 'harakat' or full vowels, they are not also used among advanced/educated arabs only beginner learners use them as they help to read correctly but as they become more proficient they do not need them anymore. When it comes to syntax, the 'harakat' are important and always used especially those of the last consonant of a word as they indicate the gramatical function of a word in the sentence. So feel free to use them or not, it's up to you.. only if you are asked to put them, then it won't be optional of course. Finally, for typing the dagger alif, I haven't seen a keyboard having it If you want the article in this link may give aditional details: http://www.webpersonal.net/jordimastrullenque/arabe/alifdedaga.en.html sorry for being soo long, hope you did not regret asking ;) good luck
