Hi, I’m Mark, a UK native English teacher and university lecturer based in Japan.
I currently teach English for Academic Purposes at Akita International University, where I help undergraduate students develop the reading, writing, speaking, and critical thinking skills required for university-level study. I have over 10 years of teaching experience in Japan, working with learners from a wide range of academic and professional backgrounds.
I work best with students who want to use English more accurately, clearly, and confidently, whether for:
university study
professional or workplace communication

I have been teaching English in Japan for over 10 years, including:
university-level academic English
business and professional English
English for healthcare professionals
At university, I teach speaking, listening, reading, and writing, with a strong focus on:

Because I also speak Japanese I understand the challenges faced by language learners and can explain difficult points clearly when needed.

My teaching style is student-centered, structured, and supportive.
In our first lesson, we focus on:
getting to know each other
understanding your background and goals
identifying the context in which you use English (study, work, daily life, or discussion)
From there, I tailor lessons to your needs. Depending on your goals, lessons may include:
guided discussion with feedback and correction
improving fluency and accuracy
developing academic or professional vocabulary
organizing ideas more clearly when speaking or writing
