I'm cross culturally marinated, warm and sociable and love to get to know all kinds of people from different backgrounds. I'm interested in pretty much anything that has something to do with people. I like to learn about world religions, understand social and cultural components and learn more about history and arts. I enjoy writing songs, making my own hot drinks and organizing dinner parties. I have a degree on Early Childhood Education, as well as on Finnish sign language and augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) support. Currently I am studying MBA in Educational Leadership. I have some experience on teaching Finnish and English. I have taught both children and adults.

Most important to me as a teacher is that you try and feel empowered through the learning process. Mistakes are part of the learning journey. I love to challenge my students to take steps beyond what they believe they are capable of. However I don't push you beyond your limits, but I will always help you when I see you are stuck. I also acknowledge our different personalities and will learn the approach you prefer me to have in supporting you, whether it's to give more space or to be more intently present.

I hope that the learning experience becomes a process we design for together, and tailor the content to serve your specific needs. I provide the structure that helps you engage with the area you want to focus on whether it's to practice conversation skills, fluency, learn some grammar, hone your writing, cover specific professional vocabulary or just get familiar with the Finnish language and the culture. I will facilitate classes where you get to be as active as possible to truly practice the target language. I use different materials to enhance your learning. I will always welcome all feedback to adjust my classes to better serve your learning objectives.

I’ve been taking lessons with Pilvi for a while now, and I can honestly say she’s an amazing teacher! She always comes prepared for our sessions, which makes every lesson smooth and productive. We’ve been working through a book together, and her guidance has been spot-on: she keeps me motivated and on track. Beyond that, she’s incredibly supportive, and I always finish our lessons feeling like I’ve learned something new and valuable. I’d highly recommend her to anyone looking to improve their skills!
