I’m Teacher Joy, a licensed professional teacher and native Tagalog speaker from the Philippines with 10+ years of teaching experience.
I specialize in helping learners communicate naturally in real-life situations—whether you're talking to your partner, connecting with family, or visiting the Philippines.

I'm an approachable teacher who builds great rapport with my students. Ever since I was a child, I've known that teaching is my true calling. After passing Licensure Examination for Teachers in 2014, I began teaching preschool and elementary students. later, I moved to secondary school, where I've been teaching language for the past 8 years. I completed Jhoy’s Tagalog Survival Kit, and the quality is exceptional. Her PowerPoints are clear, well-structured, and make each lesson easy to follow. Everything is organized and executed with real intention. It’s obvious she puts in far more preparation than most. Her materials and teaching flow show real experience and thoughtful design. It can be hard to find a “Good” teacher on italki - but I can honestly say Joy is a “Great” one. You can feel that she really cares about her students and she really encourages you to get the most out of each lesson. She is extremely patient, fun and open to changing things up if you feel it might help you. Try a lesson with Joy - you won’t regret it!
