(Part 2/2 - Continued from earlier review): Noriko’s helped me understand quirky anime idioms and recommends great podcasts for listening practice. She’s also shared amazing resources for independent study and assisted with my JLPT prep (I passed N1 under her tutelage). We’ve also practiced realistic role-play conversations, both formal and casual (ad-libbing is my kryptonite!). Since I’ve expressed interest in teaching Japanese myself, she’s even shared her approach to teaching beginner and intermediate students – I think that says a lot. But most important for me as an advanced learner, she’s just fun to talk to. You’ll never feel like you have to carry the conversation; she is genuinely interested in your views, frequently asking about current events or your home country. In turn, she shares her own diverse experiences in Japan, introducing interesting new trends, lingo and cultural phenomena that bring excitement, depth, and realism to every chat. Simply put -- Noriko’s the best!

Noriko-san is a dedicated teacher who, if you put in a bit of effort, returns that effort many times over. She is an accommodating and pleasant teacher who is attentive and takes feedback to adjust to your learning needs without any issue. Noriko-san is an especially good teacher to practice conversation with as not only is she patient and easygoing, but she's able to smooth out any awkwardness and pick up the conversation if you're unable to continue. She always provides learning materials, class notes, corrections, recorded messages for shadowing, etc. and honestly goes above and beyond in helping her students succeed. Noriko-san is a rare gem of a teacher who genuinely cares to connect with her students and encourage them on their learning journey. I feel very lucky to be able to take classes with her and look forward to improving my Japanese with every future class!

(Part 1/2 of a long-term student review) As a long-time (25+ years) learner of Japanese, I would highly recommend Noriko. I’ve been having weekly conversation lessons with her for almost two years. She’s super patient, kind, flexible, detail-oriented, organized, and thoughtful – tailoring her services to your needs and interests and going the extra mile to seek out reputable learning resources to supplement her own comprehensive lesson plans. She’s always glad to get input from you on what areas or topics you’d like to focus on, but also has an eye for identifying your challenges and will actively and adaptively support you in building confidence in your comprehension, conversation and communication skills. In my case, I wanted to focus on reading novels, so she recommended a book that I’ve since been reading in earnest while generating questions that she’ll take the time to answer thoroughly.

I've been taking tailor-made lessons with Noriko-sensei, and they've become one of the highlights of my Japanese studies. She creates such a comfortable, relaxed atmosphere where I'm never afraid to make mistakes or try to express myself, even when I don't know the right words. Instead of letting the conversation stall, she asks follow-up questions that help me keep speaking naturally and build confidence. We cover a wide range of topics, and I always come away with new vocabulary and better ways to express what I want to say. She also pays close attention to my mistakes and provides notes and recordings after each lesson, making it easy to review and improve between lessons. Noriko-sensei is patient, encouraging, and genuinely invested in her students’ progress. If you’re looking for a teacher who helps you become a more confident and natural Japanese speaker while making every lesson enjoyable, I highly recommend her!
