I have been having lessons with Shinne for a year now. Shinnie is patient, respectful and passionate about his students learning. When I thought I wasn’t progressing he showed me how much I have learned and helped restore my confidence. Shinnie has taught me how to study successfully again using his proven methods and my self-confidence has grown. I know Shinnnie teaches people with ADHD, stuttering, mental illnesses, and disabilities as I have some of these conditions. However, he has never discriminated against me and has been truly dedicated to my Korean learning. I have tried learning with other Korean teachers who have given me false compliments which I did not find productive. Shinnie has helpfully pointed out attitudes or habits that have hindered my progress and he is always honest about my skills and goals. You can trust him and just follow his guidance—without overthinking or false delusions. Shinnie is an excellent, top rate teacher. If I can do it, you can too.

Today I hung out with my Korean friend and she commented on how much I was able to understand compared to the first time I met her six months ago. I've been really working on my listening skills with Shinnie lately, and he has given me methods for studying and practicing listening effectively. In the last several months I went from having to stop and ask my friend to explain almost every single sentence that she said, to being able to listen to her tell me all about her vacation and actually understanding almost all of it. Shinnie's methods are so much more valuable than traditional book learning and really prepare you for actual conversations and situations in Korean. I'm very grateful to him for getting me to this point and I'm excited to continue learning with Shinnie.

I had another wonderful lesson with Shinnie. His teaching style is easy to follow and when he explains things in Korean it is always in a comprehensible way. The lessons are always fun, interesting and engaging. One thing I particularly enjoy is that his lessons are structured with his own curriculum, but that he is free to change it according to your needs. We have started doing mainly conversations nowadays, and even though my speaking is nowhere near as fluent, he is really patient and makes me feel comfortable. Which allowed me to have more confidence in my ability to speak and hold at least some small conversations (I think). Besides that it’s good to discuss my findings during immersion with Shinnie, because he has a great understanding of the language. Overall, I would highly recommend Shinnie to anyone looking for a Korean tutor on italki. They are knowledgeable, patient, and adept at tailoring their lessons to the student's specific needs and interests.

Personally, I am on that level where finding useful educational resources is getting more and more difficult, since most teaching materials for Korean tackle beginner and intermediate levels. I opted for Shinnie as my Korean teacher because he seemed the most resourceful and effective in his teaching method, judging by his profile intro. Now I know I made the right choice. He accepted the challenge that is teaching me Korean phrases associated with my current job (translation and production administration in a metalworking company) and his lesson plans are flawlessly executed every single time. Having so many students, and satisfied ones at that, he is one of the most hardworking and efficient people I know. He deserves all the praise he receives from students all around the world. 선생님, 고생 많으십니다!

I started learning Korean with Shinnie-씨 this past August after about a year and a half of trying different methods (self-study / group classes etc.,). I was really frustrated with my progress and losing motivation. But from my very first lesson with Shinnie-씨, things started to click quickly. Shinnie-씨’s teaching is structured yet feels like a natural conversation. I used to dread grammar drills from textbooks, but now I’m genuinely curious about how grammar and vocabulary fit together. What stands out is that, previously it felt like a chore to learn things I’d never use. But now I get super excited to learn how to talk about what really matters to me in Korean. He’s firm but always constructive and encouraging, which motivates me to put in the effort. If you’re serious about learning Korean, I highly recommend learning with Shinnie-씨.
