I had no prior knowledge of German before starting lessons with Gerald. Our lessons are very effective and he often customizes it to what I want to learn. When I am having difficultly with grammar lessons or remembering a word, Gerald always reassures me and is very patient. I have learned so much about the language and culture in such a short period of time. If there are any American beginners I cannot recommend Gerald enough, this has been such a rewarding process thus far!

I strongly recommend Gerald as a teacher for learning German. I found Gerald after experimenting with 3 professional teachers and group classes. With Gerald I learned from 0 knowledge in German to B1-B2, passing B1 Goethe at ~90% spontaneously and with ease. The classes are always engaging. I articulate complex ideas without being afraid of making mistakes. I am gently corrected when needed. We do both conversations about the topics that concern us and course book exercises. I am writing this in English for those who are looking for a German teacher to start learning 😊

Ich mag den Deutschunterricht mit Gerald sehr. Gerald ist sehr nett, freundlich und geduldig. Im Unterricht fühle ich mich wohl und entspannt. Er hat eine sehr gute Struktur im Unterricht. Seine Erklärungen sind klar und verständlich. Dank ihm habe ich viele Dinge verstanden, mit denen ich vorher Probleme hatte. Gerald gibt mir genug Zeit zum Sprechen und Nachdenken. Ich fühle mich nicht unter Druck. Besonders wichtig für mich ist, dass der Unterricht eine sichere Zone für Fehler ist. Ich habe keine Angst, Fehler zu machen. Das hilft mir, mehr Deutsch zu sprechen und selbstbewusster zu werden. Ich kann den Unterricht mit Gerald sehr empfehlen.

I have been learning German with Gerald for more than a year and couldn't be more satisfied. During this time he has helped me face my fear of speaking German by gently assisting me while I speak during our always enjoyable discussions. Gerald is very supportive and kind and there is always the right balance to fit personal needs at the moment, with some days being more focused on speaking than others. It has overall been a very enjoyable experience with a lot of progress and I can only recommend learning German with Gerald.

The lesson was nice. It feels amazingly effortless to speak with the tutor. And it was positive too.

Gerald is a fantastic German teacher! He always keeps our conversations flowing and somehow always finds interesting things to talk about, which makes speaking practice feel really natural. Since starting lessons with him, I’ve become much more confident speaking German and have seen clear progress in grammar, vocabulary, and fluency. What I really appreciate is how he handles corrections. He clearly explains the underlying concepts and writes everything down, which makes them much easier to remember. On top of that, Gerald is very organized and provides all the materials needed, making it easy to review and keep improving between lessons. And just as importantly, he brings a consistently positive attitude that makes every lesson enjoyable!
