Every student arrives with pre-existing knowledge and as a language teacher, I employ various methods of assessing this knowledge, and be cognizant of my students’ various learning styles and individual characteristics and adjust his/her teaching methods accordingly. I believe the key of a successful FL classroom lies in keeping the student engaged with the language and teacher should create a supportive and cooperative learning community so a student is comfortable confident to communicate. There are not enough superlatives to describe Sophia Ying, her teaching method, and today's lesson. The level of her professionalism is light years ahead of other instructors that I have studied with on italki. Sophia Ying is AWESOME (better than excellent)!! Her lesson was challenging, interesting, fast paced, and enjoyable. During the lesson we discussed myriad topics, shared POV, and spoke for 99% of the lesson in English. Furthermore, she introduced me to cultural and social insights of China that I wasn't aware of previously. Thank you, laoshi!!
