Hello, my name is Ivy. I’m a dedicated and patient Chinese teacher with over 20 years of teaching experience.
I graduated from Sichuan Normal University in China and hold a Mandarin Proficiency Certificate. I also have a California teaching credential in Chinese, which allows me to teach students of all ages here in the U.S.
In my classes, I focus on creating a supportive and enjoyable learning environment, where students feel confident and motivated to make progress.

Teaching Content:
Pinyin: We’ll start with Pinyin, the foundation of Mandarin pronunciation. By the end of this section, you’ll be able to confidently pronounce any Chinese character using Pinyin.
Vocabulary & Sentences: You’ll learn essential words and phrases for everyday life, and practice constructing sentences so you can communicate effectively in real situations.
Speaking Practice: Improve your spoken Chinese through interactive conversations on a variety of topics. We’ll practice real-life scenarios, such as traveling in China, to help you speak naturally and fluently.

Shi Laoshi is professional and kind. She is great at explaining things. The lessons are well-tailored to my level. I always learn a few great new words to use from our Oral Chinese Practice lessons.

Ivy Shi is an excellent teacher, and her lesson was challenging, interesting and enjoyable. During the lesson she asked me a plethora of questions pertaining to a particular topic that I selected, and corrected my enunciation of certain words. I highly recommend Ivy to anyone wanting to improve their speaking and listening skills.
