Janelle is an excellent Tagalog teacher. This is my first time learning the language and it was my first class with Janelle. She was able to explain things clearly and simply so that there isn't any misunderstanding. She uses the CLT (Communicative Language Teaching) approach in her classroom. This allows you to really get hands-on and start speaking even from the first class. She is very energetic, understanding, encouraging and jovial. The lesson format was good. It started with a brief introduction including a bit of who I am and my goals. She then used a textbook appropriate to my level and helped me to start saying phrases. Do not worry if you are worried about pronunciation or making mistakes. Janelle will guide you through it in a way that doesn't make you lose any confidence. It is actually quite the opposite. She will help you stay motivated. If you are considering learning Tagalog, you won't need to look any further. This is the teacher for you.

Teacher Janelle helped me a lot with my preparation for the IELTS test. I got an overall 8 (speaking 8, writing 7) in the end after taking several classes with her. Janelle took notes when I spoke and gave me constructive feedback on how to restructure my sentences to sound more formal, reminding me of my grammar and vocabulary errors. She also provided me with tons of learning and practicing materials, such as mock tests and helpful test prep websites. During the writing sessions, she taught me the core principles of IELTS writing, the pitfalls we often face, the examination criteria, etc. It helps me to gain more confidence in my writing and know the directions I can improve.
