¡Qué es la que hay mi corillo! I’m Emilio, a TEFL-certified English tutor from New York who loves conversational English and slang. My mixed roots (Puerto Rican, Italian, German, Hungarian) fuel my passion for languages—I speak Spanish and am learning Portuguese. I’ve taught students from Haiti to Japan using music, movies, and pop culture to make learning fun. I am a certified online TEFL teacher, and I’m excited to teach English as a professional tutor on this platform. I earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Science, Technology, and Society, with double minors in Latin American Studies and Sociology.
I worked on a project with students in Chile, and I also volunteered twice a week for 3 months to tutor English to non-native speakers from different cultural backgrounds. I have experience as a substitute tutor as well.

In addition to being self-taught in foreign languages like Spanish and Portuguese, I’ve also used iTalki myself as a learner. My teaching style is flexible and works well with many different types of students. While I use structured methods from my TEFL training, I always adapt my lessons to fit each student’s personal goals.
I focus on helping students use English in real-life conversations and everyday situations. My lessons often include activities using PDFs and videos to teach grammar, pronunciation, sentence structure, and vocabulary. It was my first time taking a class on italki, so I was nervous and a bit anxious. But Emilio made the class feel friendly and comfortable, and I was able to relax and talk easily in no time. He explains the parts I struggle with using various examples that help me understand right away. He also gives me precise feedback on the areas I want to improve. I'm looking forward to more lesson with Emilio!
