"엄마는 외계인"은 배스킨라빈스에서 가장 인기 있는 초콜릿 아이스크림 중 하나예요. 그런데 원래 이 아이스크림의 국제적인 이름은 Puss in Boots, 즉 "장화 신은 고양이"였습니다. 그렇다면 왜 한국에서는 "엄마는 외계인"으로 이름이 바뀌었을까요?

2000년대 초반, 배스킨라빈스 코리아는 감동적인 광고를 선보였습니다. 
이 광고에서는 아이가 아빠에게 "엄마는 어디 갔어요?"라고 묻는데요, 아빠는 정확한 답을 주기 어려워 밤하늘의 별을 가리키죠. 
이 광고는 많은 한국 사람들에게 큰 감동을 주었고, 결국 이 아이스크림의 이름도 "엄마는 외계인"으로 바뀌게 되었어요.

이 아이스크림은 세 가지 초콜릿 맛—초콜릿 아이스크림, 초콜릿 퍼지, 초콜릿 칩—으로 구성되어 있어요. 달콤하고 진한 맛이지만, 이름은 조금 슬프고도 따뜻한 감정을 떠올리게 하죠. 이렇게 마케팅에 따라 특별한 이야기와 감성을 담아서 한국 만의 아이스크림인 것 같은 독특한 이름이 탄생했네요.

Sun Tzu said you need to know yourself, know your enemy, and know the terrain too. Because in a war, you win by using the environment around you. For example, in World War II, German U-boats won three big battles in the Mediterranean—they hid their boats using the sea’s special water conditions, and that helped them win. So knowing the terrain is really important.
