Opinion Essays: To What Extent Do You Agree? | IELTS #114
Mô tả
Level B2 (approx. band 5.5-6.5) · Academic and General Training
"To what extent do you agree or disagree?" is one of the most common Task 2 instructions. Yet many essays say "I agree" in the introduction, argue the other side in the body, and end with "it depends". The reader cannot find a clear position.
In this episode:
• Three positions you can take
• Keeping the position clear throughout
• Partial agreement done well
• A reliable structure
• Model
• Language bridge
• Practice
• Self-check questions with answers
Key points:
• any position can score well if it is clear and well supported.
• your opinion appears in the introduction, guides every topic sentence and returns in the conclusion.
• partial agreement needs a clear dividing line, stated in the thesis.
• a concession is one or two sentences, followed straight away by your own view.
