Real Personality Some friend posted this on Facebook. I thought it was so cute. 一個人的人格特質與文字裡的風格,其實沒什麼兩樣。不是改了習慣的用語,或是改變了一個故事背景就能轉變。一個人真正的風格鑲在文字背後,像一種味道,隱藏不了,也永遠改變不了。 My translation: A person's character and his handwriting are no different. One cannot become a different creature merely of the changes in the way he speaks or the story changed in his essay. His real personality is imprinted in his calligraphic strokes, like a scent that can never be hidden away; forever remaining unchanged.

Real Personality

Some friend posted this on Facebook. I thought it was so cute.

I think this author faild to make himself cllear in Chinese. This might be what he tried to say.

一個人文字裡的風格與人格特質,其實沒什麼兩樣。(The subject was omitted, but should be 文字裡的風格)不是改了習慣的用語,或是改變了一個故事背景就能轉變。一個人真正的風格鑲在文字背後,像一種味道,隱藏不了,也永遠改變不了。

My translation:
(My English is not as good as you, but I tried to explain the exact meaning of this paragraph in English.)
A person's character and his writing style are no different(Deducing from the logic, it cannot be "reflect each other" here.). His writing style cannot become totally different by changing the way he speaks or the background of story only changed in his essay. His real style is not totally exposed in his texts, and it is like a scent that can never be disguised(By using disguise instead of hide, I revealed the implication that one can never fake his style.) or changed.

@maungmaung: I don't know about my furry friend but for one thing, I am going to practise hard until I becomes good. Truth may never be pleasing to the ears but it takes a greatness to appreciate it. :)

I wonder what will happen when your friend discovers that his calligraphy is not that great.... hahaha...;) I don't know why these kind of fluffy statements are so popular on the internet. Perhaps it's because they make ordinary people feel special about themselves.

Sorry no time to check my thoughts on electronic paper. The boss is calling us for lunch!

@ Melaminefree: Directness is good. I have no problem with that. However, you need to rephrase your words more diplomatically. For other people, it would mean a direct attack. Since I know you are still learning English, I get your drift. Here's my comment, I think both of you are mistaken. From what I read in the passage, it is not the style of writing ie how one person writes an essay but his calligraphy. You both are reading from too literal a standpoint. Remember you have to look at the photo for reference. The author wrote with the photo in mind. In writing calligraphy, it is not always the words of the calligrapher but some master of the ancient times. So therefore what was written is irrelevant. Traditional Chinese believe that from the style of your calligraphy, handwriting, one can deduce the nature and character of the person. In English its called handwriting analysis. What the author says ambiguously (which I consider to be a highly creative piece of writing) is that it doesn't matter who you are, your handwriting gives a tell tale sign of you. The author is referring that even a cat can hold a brush and write. It is not what is written by how the strokes are created. No matter how it is written, (whether using hirgana, hangeol etc), the strokes will tell the nature.
