How to live a memorable life?(1)
This video really tells us a lot interesting things. How those “memory savant” remember incredibly enormous humdrum things? How did the speaker find the memory trick? When and where this trick--a fundament human capacity which we essentially outsource to a series of technologies we’ve invented—derives from? All these things the speaker told are amazing and impressed. But what impressed me most is the words the speaker said: “They work because they make you work…You have to be a person who remembers to remember.”
Actually, this story is not complicated. The speaker went to cover the United States Memory Championship a few years ago as a science journalist. And then, he was interested in this unbelievable “technique” that makes people who have just an average memory can memorize entire books. He began to find the key to this secret. He consulted articles about memory. He investigated the result of an experiment conducted on a bunch of memory champions aimed at found out physiological reasons about memory secret. And, he even trained his own memory a whole year. Finally, he found out this technique dated back from 2500 year ago which is invented by a Greek poet. It is called memory palace, which means using spatial memory to remember things. That is to say when you try to remember something, you can create an image in your mind, and the things you have to memorize are inside. That is why those memory champions’ part of brain that’s involved in spatial memory and navigation were lighting up when they remember difficult things under the FMRI machine’s scanning.
