Supplementary radiation therapy in breast cancer recurrence reduction

Breast cancer is the foremost case of cancer in women. It metastasizes frequently. According to official statistics, 1.6 million people are diagnosed with [breast?] cancer yearly in the world. In Iran this statistics is tens of thousands per year, so that it can be said at this present, we have approximately fifty thousand patients with breast cancer in different stage of treatment, which unfortunately are associated with an upward trend. The first formal treatment of cancer, mastectomy procedure, was performed by William Halsted in 1894. It involves removing the entire breast tissue, pectorallis muscles and axillary contents. Since then, progress in oncology with the combination of new techniques such as lumpectomy, Combined HRT, Estrogen Therapy and Chemotherapy, made it possible to preserve as much of the breast tissue and increased survival. Among these methods,In addition to direct treatment of some types of breast cancer, radiation therapy method is used as a complementary procedures after other methods, such as lumpectomy, for cancer recurrence reduction on the same side or the uninvolved side. But its use is recommended only in so far as its benefit is greater than the its loss. For example, it has been demonstrated that in women with high risk of local recurrence in 4 or more lymph nodes, radiation therapy has more benefits than disadvantages. But some doctors believe patients with certain characteristics (such as age over 70 years, a small tumor, no signs of cancer in the lymph nodes and estrogen receptor-positive or marginal surgical site) can use hormone therapy instead of radiation therapy after lumpectomy. It seems that in some cases neglecting radiotherapy can cause a recurrence in patients. This study was conducted to determine the importance of radiotherapy in patients where radiation therapy is not [normally indicated?] medically necessary.

-I think your last sentence should be rewritten. Why would you ever use radiotherapy if it wasn't medically necessary? I just took a guess at what I thought you meant.

-I left Combined HRT, Estrogen Therapy and Chemotherapy capitalized, but I am 90% sure they shouldn't be (he acronym HRT excepted). I'm not certain of the convention in the medical field.
