What do you think about culture shock? I have a Vietnamese friend and a American friend. I thought it was great if I introduced them together. But it was not simple like my thought. Their thoughts were different with other one. My Vietnamese friend thought that when she wanted to practice English with some one and helped them for improving Vietnamese, they were friend. But My American friend thought that they were not friend, they were only partner. That's problem. So, they had a hot disputation and blocked other one. I think it's just misunderstading. You can see their definition of "friend" is different. My Vietnamese friend thought that she needed to know some simple information about "friend" who could help her and whom her could help. But My American friend thought that they could practice without any personal question althought they were simple personal questions. Do you think that's culture shock?

I know it`s 3 months too late, but the issue is of some importance, I reckon. It`s all about how we define friendship. For example, one can have lots of acquaitances or colleagues but only one friend. Sometimes the word 'friend' is overused. A colleague form our work is not necessarily our true friend. A friend is someone we trust more than others or would tell our secrets. Definitely, friendship is a phenomenon which develops with time. So, here one person just wanted to be a language partner, not a friend. Maybe with time bonds of friendship would be forged... Who knows.

I guess Richard is right. It is not a culture shock, it is a different preference of an individual. We can't please others on things that works for us. Just be an open-minded and things will work greatly well that way.

I think it's just the preference of the individual. I'm an American, and I definitely like to get to know my language partners at least a little. It makes it easier to find things to talk about.
