Now you can write ä ö ü using your English keyboard ! Guten Tag ! People who learn German suffer when they want to write some German words using their English keyboard because some letters aren't found in English like letter ß for example ,, Good news! now anyone can write any word properly just by holding alt key then typing some numbers ,, so : Ä (hold down the Alt key and type 0196) ä (Alt 0228) Ö (Alt 0214) ö (Alt 0246) Ü (Alt 0220) ü (Alt 0252) ß (Alt 0223) Hope that helps :)

Just to add to this, if you have a Macbook, you can write umlauts by following these steps: 1) Hold down the Command key 2) Press the "u" key whilst holding the Command key 3) Press whichever letter on your keyboard you need the umlaut for (ü, ä, ö). Or, if you don't want to memorise anything, you can always substitute the letters: ä = ae ö = oe ü = ue ß = ss ...this works in all of the search engines too! ^^
