Comparing learning experiences: English and Spanish I was thinking about comparing my level of English with the that of Spanish. I've noticed that when I watch a film in English, I still find it difficult to understand quite a lot of the dialogues, if not subtitled (with English subtitles, everything is much easier). The same doesn't happen with a Spanish film, even if I've been learning Spanish for shorter than English. This makes me think that if I could have started to learn Spanish in the same period of English (as a teen-ager), I would have reached a very high level, due to the close resemblance between Spanish and Italian. Of course, in the long term my objective is to improve in both Spanish and English as much as I can. I hope Italki can be useful in that respect.

Comparing learning experiences: English and Spanish

I was thinking about comparing my level of English with the that of Spanish. I've noticed that when I watch a film in English, I still find it difficult to understand quite a lot of the dialogue*s, if not subtitled (with English subtitles, everything is much easier). The same doesn't happen with a Spanish film, even if though** I've been learning Spanish for shorter less time than English. This makes me think that if I could have started to learn Spanish in the same period of at the same time as when I learnt English (as a teenager), I would have reached a very high level, due to the close resemblance between Spanish and Italian.
Of course, in the long term my objective is to improve in both Spanish and English as much as I can. I hope Italki can be useful in that respect.

Very good! A few notes:

*Dialogue is a non-count noun, with the slight difference that you can use "a" with it. So you can have a dialogue with someone, you can have dialogue with someone, or you can have "a piece of dialogue", but never "dialogues"

** We use 'even though' here because we're talking about a fact, not a hypothetical situation. For example "I would be an amazing singer even if I didn't have training" (but I do have training) vs "I am an amazing singer even though I didn't have training" (this is a fact - I never did get training).
