Journalist, really?
Hello there. It's been very long time not being active in this website. This is my first note after 3 years.
I'm an editor in a lifestyle online media for millennial women, like Popsugar or Cosmopolitan. All the articles I've written and edited is in my language, not in English.
When people ask me, "What's your job?" I usually say, "A journalist."
Yes, I've studied journalism in college. As an editor, I'm also a reporter. But 'journalist' word sounds strange for me because I'm not a qualified one. Qualified, it means you have to do various trains and tests to get journalist card that exclusively released by Press Council in my country. That's not easy to get that special card because once you successfully get that card, you are a legitimate journalist.
When you hear the word 'journalist', what do you think? What I think is someone who reports what's happening out there, writes news about politic/economic/crime.
What I do is reading articles from women websites like Popsugar, Glamour, writing articles about dating, like '7 Signs He's The One You've Been Waiting For' or 'His Zodiac Sign Tells What Kind of Husband He Is In The Future'.
So sometimes I feel that I don't deserve calling myself as a journalist.
What do I do everyday?
I write and edit articles, interview celebs, collect ideas what to write next, handle some contributors and suggest them what to write, etc.
So, what do you think? Should I deserve to call myself a journalist or maybe I should introduce myself with other job title?
