How do you pronouce "resume" My question: people pronouce "resume" differently, because of their different accents or different conditions? I have seen there are 3 kinds of phonetic symbol about "resume", respectively [ri'zju:m], [.rezju'mei] and [ri'zu:m]. The first two, I always heard from English movies and records. Mostly, [.rezju'mei], I heard of it when subjects were finding a job in office, meaning it was always considered as the summary. As to [ri'zju:m], I heard of it more as a verb. The last one, [ri'zu:m], I did not heard much, or maybe I mixed it up with the second one.

resume - [rez-oo-mey, rez-oo-mey] - a brief written account of personal, educational, and professional qualifications and experience, as that prepared by an applicant for a job. resume- [ri-zoom] - to continue Hope this helps

I think you may be confusing two different words: resume and résumé. Maybe that is why you are hearing different pronunciations and seeing different phonetics. The first means to continue while the second is similar to Curriculum Vitae.

Hi Lei Chen, The word "resume" has two different meanings. The pronunciations are different for each meaning. "[.rezju'mei]" means "履历". This word is borrowed from French, and is sometimes spelled "résumé". "[ri'zu:m]" means "重新开始". I hope this helps.
