Hi there! Although there's no much difference, "заканчиваться" is used mostly when describing some process, and "кончаться" is more about quantity. Some examples: Заканчиваться: The movie is going to end in five minutes. Фильм заканчивается через пять минут. The lecture is over, at last. Лекция закончилась, наконец. Кончаться: I'm running out of money. У меня кончаются деньги. Oh no, we're out of coffee! О нет, у нас кончился кофе! And so on... But as already mentioned by the others, both those verbs are pretty similar and can be interchanged.
