Want to learn some Malay greetings? Here are the answers.
In Malaysia, we do not have 'hello'.
Basically, 'hello' is 'hello' and 'hi' is 'hai'.
Though sometimes the Muslims (in Malaysia) greet each other by 'Assalamualaikum' (*I am not a Muslim, so forgive me if I got the spelling wrong.)
How are you? - Apa khabar?
I'm fine. - Khabar baik
Thank You - Terima Kasih
You're welcome. - Sama-sama
Welcome - Selamat Datang
Good Morning - Selamat Pagi
Good Afternoon - Selamat Tengah Hari
Good Evening - Selamat Petang
Good Night - Selamat Malam
Yes - Ya
No/not - Tidak,tak (both can be used)
Correct - Betul
Wrong - Salah / Tidak betul
Help - Tolong!
Danger - Bahaya.
I'm sorry - Minta maaf, maaf
Forgive me - Maafkan aku (more casual), Maafkan saya (more polite)
*Saya/Aku both means 'I/me/myself'.
'saya' is a more polite version whilst,
'aku' is a more casual version (usually used with friends, family members, etc. but usually 'aku' is more commonly used and it is not very offensive or rude.)
When asking for assistance - Minta tolong.
When asking a question (May I ask?) - Tumpang tanya.
For anymore questions, do leave a comment :)
