Pálinka is a fruit brandy. Basically, the fruit is fermented then distilled (the 'pál-' root is borrowed from the Slavonic language group and means to burn, ie. distil). Water is only added to maximize the balance of flavour and strength, so most of these spirits are about 55-60%. Pálinka is made of fruit. Traditionally pear, peach, plum. But any kind of fruit do it. People collect the best quality fruits in a barrel, ferment them for months and then boil it so the alcohol gets out. A nd some water also. it is usually between 50-60% of alcohol. nothing in common with vodka. You can taste the fruit in a shot of pálinka. Actually you are able to tell which fruit is it made of.
