I think perhaps you just confused about the differences between the two words:这样，那样。Sometimes they both mean the same thing, i.e. A: MIke works very hard. B: The Chinese all work hard. 对话可以翻译成：A说：迈克工作很努力，B说中国人都这样，也可以说成中国人都那样。

perhaps your teacher want to show the good quality Chinese have. so he or she said Chinese always have filial piety or show respect to the teacher. maybe show the excellent traditional culture of China~~
