I am guessing you mean this clip: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rWqVoaYxgRs "Staining Whistler's Mother." Yes, the painting is a very famous painting by James McNeill Whistler. The actual title is "Arrangement in Grey and Black No.1" but it is always known as "Whistler's Mother." The Wikipedia article about it is http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Whistler's_Mother and the article about Whistler is http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/James_McNeill_Whistler Whistler was born in the United States, in Lowell, Massachusetts, also the birthplace of the writer Jack Kerouac. As an artist, however, he did most of his work in Paris and London. To people living in the U.S. and, I think, in England, it is an extremely famous painting. Trying to rank famous paintings is stupid, but at least one such list, http://www.madisonartshop.com/most-famous-paintings.html calls it the 9th most famous painting. You might want to look at that list, just for fun. I guess it might be "the most famous painting by a U.S.-born artist." Before I found the clip, I had wondered whether the picture might be Grant Wood's "American Gothic," which is number #15 on their list
