Does Farsi/Persian has many indo-germantic loan words? Simple question: Does Farsi/Persian has many indo-germanic loan words? So, if I learn to read would I recognize many words known from other languages? To give an example what I mean, a while ago I was in Russia. I don't speak Russian at all, but I did learn the Cyrillic alphabet - and noticed that Russian has many similar words that are also used in German. Like: картофель = Kartoffel Шашлык = Schaschlik информация = Information So I wonder if it may help with basic Persian, at least to work out a restaurant menu and to read a destination on a bus. PS: Why can't I choose the correct (Persian) category when asking a question? Bug?
