'Sit' is the word you want. 'Sit on your chair'. 'in' and 'on' are usually clear, but are sometimes a little ambiguous. 'on' = 上 and 'in' = 里 is the general idea. My understanding is that 在 can be used for either, but is usually more 'at'.
