To be a bit more specific, though, I would assume that "making it" in this case refers to being able to pay his bills using only the money he earned from doing comedy and therefore being able to continue doing comedy as long as he wants.  The contrast between Jason and Brad is the clearest indication of this.  Jason decided to obtain a more traditional job to pay his bills.
