As a beginner who has been learning Italian seriously for less than 3 months, I found pronunciation is very easy and straightforward (compared with English, it's a piece of adorable cake for me), yet Verb conjugations is so complicated and troublesome, which is without a doubt the most difficult part.  Sentence structure sometimes can be confusing, but it's fun to learn, as the structure is far more loose and not that rigid as English.

Answer

Direct and indirect objects and also use of the verb piacere have been the most difficult for me.  I have not found pronunciation difficult.  Sentence structure is a little confusing and when to use "the" and when not to is still a little shaky.  Verb conjugations have only been hard when I started trying to use the subjunctive and passato remoto.

Credo che per tutti gli studenti (soprattutto slavi, tipo russi, serbi, croati, ucraini, cechi, slovach le cui lingue non hanno queste due strutture grammaticali usati nello stesso modo) la cosa più difficile sarebbe l'uso degli articoli e delle preposizioni, espressioni tipo... al ristorante, al cinema, a letto, , a casa, a scuola, alla posta, in banca, nel bagno, in bagno, al bagno...  di cui/ su cui..., grazie per o grazie di, andare a/in, partire per, finire di, cominciare a. Capisco che certe cose vanno imparate a memoria ma ci dovrebbe essere almeno una spiegazione per rendere la cosa più facile:-(
