What is the difference between these two kanji
去
先
I've been told they can both mean past, but is there a significant difference in which you would use them

2,last -

e.g. 去年(きょねん) - last year

3,remove

e.g. 障害物を除去する(しょうがいぶつをじょきょする) - remove the obstacle

4,past
「- 去(こ)」
e.g. 過去 - past

[先]

1,tip
「先(さき)」、「先(せん) -」
e.g. 針の先(はりのさき) - the tip of a needle
e.g. 針の先端(はりのせんたん) - the tip of a needle

2,ahead
「先(さき)」
e.g. 100メートル先(100メートルさき) - 100 meters ahead

3,before, former
「先(さき)」、「先(せん) -」
e.g. 先にやっておく(さきにやっておく) - do smt before sth(usually, we use 先(さき) in response to the previous sentence)

for example
A:My order hasn't come yet.
B:I'll wait for you.
A:先に食べてていいよ。 - Please go ahead and eat it.(先に indicates 'before my order come')

e.g. 先年(せんねん) - former years

I think the Kanji 先 means like, earlier or previously as in,"Earlier today", or, "...an earlier report..." Stuff like that.
