Question Hi, there Could you help me with two questions? 1) Let's say I am going to a theater to get a good seat up front for my friends (do you understand what I mean?) . So I leave home earlier. But the theater turns out to be very empty, and my friends and I can sit wherever we wish. So, could I say "It didn't do us any good getting early" or "It was no use at all me getting here early." ? Or maybe "It was no help me getting here early"? Do any work? None? 2) Let us say you walked to someone's house along the beach, and, on your way back, you want to take the next street over from the waterfront, would it sound stange to say "Could we go back along the next street over from the waterfront?" Thank you very much!

For Q1 all 3 answers work, but... "It didn't do us any good getting HERE early" For Q2 it would sound more natural if you were to say: Could we go back along Name of Street? If the listener was unsure about which street you were referring to then you might clarify it by saying: The next street over from the waterfront.

In answer to the first question, I wouldn't say any of those phrases as a native British English speaker, I would say: 'There was no point me (us) getting here so early/leaving home so early' In answer to the sound question, I'd say "Could we go/walk back down that's a block back from the waterfront" Hope this helps! Sara :-)
