Good materials for learning French sentence structure. & The meaning of the pronoun "on".
Hi guys!
I often translate French sentences into English (in my head) while I am reading. This method works well in simple sentences, but confuses me when it comes to clauses or complicated sentences. How can I improve my French comprehension? Are there some good websites or materials for me to study sentence structure?
Also, I struggled in understanding sentences with "on" in it. Would you please tell me how "on" is used in French? e.g. 1. On appela mon nom et je me levai. 2. On voyait qu'il avait bu.
Merci beaucoup!

Hey!
I think this web site could help you :"http://www.bonjourdefrance.com/"
For your second question: In French, we use "on" in different moment:
- when we are talking about an action where we are implicated (ex: Toi et moi, on est entrain de parler...)
- to express generality : "on dit qu'il faut suivre les règles. On dit qu'il faut... = People means...
I hope I have answered your question, and if you need more explictions or if you have other question send me a message

Hi,
- "on" can be used as an equivalent to "quelqu'un" (someone), the speaker does not know who is the subject.
Someone told him the truth --> On lui a dit la vérité / Quelqu'un lui a dit la vérité.
- "on" can be used for a bunch of people.
En France, on célèbre la Fête Nationale le 14 juillet.
- "on" can be used in sayings
Moins on sait, plus on croit. --> The less you know, the more you believe
- "on" can be used in informal speech in place of "nous" (we)
On revient dans une heure / Nous revenons dans une heure. --> We will be back in an hour
