There is no difference in the meaning, only a difference in the feeling. "Can" is from German. Both "able" and "capable" are from Latin. In English, words that come from German are usually comfortable, plain, and natural feeling. Words that come from Latin often feel more like school or science or words.

In my opinion I don't really think there's much of a difference since they all basically mean the same thing. It depends how you want to use them.

The words "can" and "be able to" are the same verb and they mean the same thing I can run I am able to run Both sentences mean the same thing, but usually being 'able to do' means you are physically capable (someone who is able to do something = someone who is capable of doing something) of doing it
