the best way of wathcing movies with subs The question is how to use subtitles within movie so that it's the most productive for your language learning? I think there'r two main ways: 1. Native language audio track/foreign language subs track 2. Foreign language audio track/native language subs track Or maybe there's no use at all using subtitles when watching with foreign language audio track? Maybe you just read the line at the bottom and it's no benefit at all? I'm not much into it, so I want you to help me.@Peachey yes, that's why i don't like to watch translated subs, cuz it's not always close ebough. so i usually watch eng audio/eng subs tracks.

Hi... I think everyone is right here because we all have our way to learn and if a method works for one perhaps it is not working for others... The main thing here is to watch movies to develop your listening skill !

I agree strongly with Julia and Dimitry. It has been quite useful for me, at some stage, when I am learning a foreign language, to see movies and documentaries and at the same time to read subtitles. In some movies its very hard to understand what it is said because of the accents and speed of native speakers. But, of course, if I am in a very advanced stage, I don t need to read subtitles anymore.

When I started to watch movies in english I watched russian version first to understand what is going there and to get dialogs, than I watched it in english with english subs. Some films (those that were too difficult) I watched in two streams in two video-players: 5 min. russian -> 5 min english -> 5 min russian -> etc. Then my level has grown up and I started to watch english films with english subs right away and did not need any translation. Some people watch foreign movies without subs and consider it the best way to grip language. I agree with them to some extent. I personally do not like to miss some words or phrases so I use subs.

If be honest...the best way for watching foreign films is when you watch and listen and read the subs in foreign language...that's why you can follow the structure of sentences and hear the sounds which fill the pauses. This's my opinion.

I find subtitles quite distracting, and unless I'm going to re-watch the scenes and study the language I won't bother - I'll just listen to the original dialogue. Of course that doesn't always work for me, so I do resort to assistance often. ;) The issue is, by using subtitles you're relying on someone else's translation. Once I tried to watch Cowboy Bebop with both English subtitles and overdubs - turns out they were two very different translations from the Japanese!
