Hello! I’m Mai 😊
I have loved languages since childhood and studied foreign languages, linguistics, and translation at university. After graduating, I studied abroad in the UK and Germany, where I experienced the challenges of learning and living in another language.
I later obtained my Japanese teaching qualification and have taught over 1,500 lessons online across different platforms. I’ve worked with students from many backgrounds and levels.
I’ve been married to my British husband for 16 years, and we have lived together in Japan ever since. Through our cross-cultural life, I deeply understand the difficulties Japanese learners face, from grammar to natural nuance and politeness.Tôi với tư cách là giáo viên
I began my teaching career in 2010, providing English lessons to Japanese learners.
In 2019, I taught Japanese at a senior high school in Taiwan, where I gained valuable classroom teaching experience. After returning to Japan, I transitioned to online teaching, which I continue to focus on today.
I now work with students from around the world, helping them build confidence and enjoy using Japanese in real-life communication.

My lessons use original materials and focus strongly on speaking practice👍 I keep explanations clear and concise, then move quickly into active use of the target grammar.
Depending on your level, we may describe illustrations, respond to visual prompts, or do short discussions. The goal is to help you think and speak in Japanese from the beginning.
Each lesson is personalized to your goals, interests, and learning style, so you can practice Japanese in a way that feels practical, engaging, and relevant to your real life.
Lessons are conducted in English, so a basic understanding of English is recommended. (I can also speak German👍🇩🇪)

Senior High School Japanese TeacherI had a wonderful experience at a national senior high school in Taiwan. Most of the students were beginners of Japanese language, I taught them not only Hiragana and Katakana, grammar and some useful phrases, but Japanese culture!

Mai sensei is an excellent teacher! I have had a couple tutoring sessions with her and I’ve gotten much more confident in my speaking and listening ability! Because Mai-sensei is such a big Beatles fan, it was a lot of fun to try talking about Beatles stories in Japanese! Plus, she has a lot of experience performing, which makes the lessons even more fun!

It was great fun chatting about music with Mai-sensei. Really helpful too, and I loved hearing about her performances. What’s more, she has an excellent knowledge of grammar and gives plenty of explanations in English.
