Maura Tisoy

Maura is a wonderful teacher who creates a really engaging and comfortable space to learn. Today we talked about food combinations in Colombia and cultural differences around everyday manners — it was fascinating to see how the same action can mean completely different things depending on context. We also picked up some fun vocabulary like murciélagos and cucarrones. She has a great way of making conversations feel natural while sneaking in real learning.

I’ve really enjoyed my lessons with Maura. She creates a comfortable and relaxed environment that makes it much easier for me to speak without overthinking. We’ve had great conversations about birds, pets, and everyday topics, which keeps the lessons engaging and natural. One thing I especially appreciate is how she encourages me to speak more freely while still offering helpful corrections and guidance. I’m becoming more confident expressing myself in Spanish thanks to her.

Maura continues to be great at helping me learn Spanish. Today we talked about animals, which was a nice way for me to pick up some vocabulary that I was unfamiliar with. Thank you, Maura!

Another great lesson with Maura! Today we talked about our respective video projects, learning our heritage languages, and how moms aren’t always the best language teachers 😄 I had a lot of fun and the conversation felt like just chatting among friends. Maura continues to help me improve my verb tenses, Spanish is hard! She continues to explain things clearly in a way that sticks though. As always, a really enjoyable class.

I really enjoy free-talking with Maura in Spanish and learning more about Colombian and Inga culture. Today she shared a video she took of a bird because we had been talking about birds. I appreciate the effort she makes to follow up on our conversation topics. Thanks, Maura!
