IELTS essay Q: The increase in production of consumer goods has resulted in damage of the natural environment. What are the causes of this phenomenon and what are the solutions? In this age of change, the human society is progressing rapidly on various fronts. Yet at the same time, many problems have arisen, a serious one of which is that the natural environment has been badly damaged with the increase in production of consumer goods. This issue has drawn widespread attention. In this essay, I will analyse some possible causes of this phenomenon and the propose some solutions. It is obvious that the causes of this problem are diverse. In the first place, the population explosion is the root cause of this crisis. An illustration of this point would be that over the past half century, the world population has more than doubled and this growth rate shows no sign of slowing down; as a result, household and company use of consumer goods have been shooting up since the end of World War II. In the second place, the great multitude of rubbish coming from the products we daily use constitutes a major cause of this situation. Specifically, currently the things we buy, especially some processed food, are usually wrapped up with exquisite but disposable packaging, which seriously undermines the world's ecosystem. Finally, the way of production which is not environmentally-friendly enough also plays a pivotal role in damage of ecological equilibrium. Obviously, today a vast number of factories which produce consumer goods are dumping their waste into the great nature; as a consequence, our natural environment is gradually damaged on daily basis. Accordingly, the solutions to this problem should be varied as well. To begin with, governments in all countries should give priority to the controlling of the staggering increase of the population. For instance, it is essential that other nations learn from China's success in curbing its population surge over the past two decades. Then, the concept of sustainable development should be spread in the international community. Indeed, any materials which are degradable or reusable should be respected, honored and funded in the arena of producing packaging. Last but not least, man must do his utmost to find alternative ways of production. For example, research has proved that some newly-invented equipments and machines can be used in the process of production to avoid contaminant transporting into the environment.
