Conversation: to practice speaking and listening.
Reading: to practice and correct pronunciation; learn new words and forms of saying things.
Writing or Translation from Spanish: Either revise a previously written text, or translate a given (Spanish) text, to practice sentence construction. If there are difficult words, I can give you the word in English - the focus is on building sentences.
Please understand, adult students only. There are other teachers who specialise in teaching children and are better prepared for it.

Intensive Practice

Intensive practice in writing, improving vocabulary beyond a simple, conversational level.
The course teaches characterisation, plot structure and creating impact. There is also the possibility of preparation for publishing, which includes proofreading and giving advice on the publishing process.
A minimum level of B2, (Upper Intermediary) is needed.

Creative Writing

This intensive class is NOT just practicing responding to questions in English, but also preparing the BEST possible answers to common interview questions. TOO MANY people, including English-speaking people, don't understand the reason behind these questions and what an employer really wants to hear.

This course will not only help you with your English, but improve your chances in getting the job!

Job Interview Preparation

Intensive practice - speaking, listening, reading and describing pictures.
NOT for new students, sorry.
Only for those who I have been teaching before 2023.

My CURRENT Students only

We need to go back to the beginning and learn the correct pronunciation of the letters.
We do a lot of reading, where you listen to the words first and then repeat. We can use tonguetwisters, phrases designed to practice one particular sound.
I understand it is difficult when you have spent all your life pronouncing letters in your own language in a different way, so to change that doesn't feel natural. I know from experience, having learnt Spanish and a little bit of Chinese, Portuguese and French, that new sounds are hard to say. For this I am very patient and encouraging.
I come from Australia, but I speak with Received Pronunciation, a "correct/standard" form of British English, but very much a NEUTRAL accent, which I think is important to be understood in whatever country you are living in.
Having a good vocabulary and correct grammar means nothing if the other person cannot understand what you want to say!
I am strict and we will work hard, but I believe it should be a relaxed, positive class - I don't want you to feel stressed. Remember, mistakes are not bad, we can learn from them.

Accent Reduction + Correct Pronunciation

Are you a singer or musician?
Writing a song in English is not just a question of translating it from your own language. We want it to sound good - we need to think of good/cool expressions; find words that rhyme or sound similar, and keep in mind the number of syllables so that it conforms to the beat.
Sometimes we need to look for alternative words to avoid difficult sustained notes at the end of a line, such as the long "ee" sound. An example of this is the song, "And I am telling you", in particular the Jennifer Hudson version.
