In a trial lesson, you can tell me about your hopes and goals regarding your Finnish studies. I will introduce my teaching material and methods, and we will discuss the exact lesson structure that would suit you the best. Maybe you want to focus on talking, or maybe you'd like to learn more vocabulary about a specific topic. Or maybe you need help in proofreading texts. By communicating these requests in the trial lesson, we can set the right tone for the future lessons!

These lessons are a good place to start or refresh your Finnish. For example, if you studied Finnish in the past and would like to go through the basics again, this will get you re-started! 

The lesson structure is based on a PowerPoint presentation which familiarizes you with the most crucial Finnish phrases and vocabulary. As you progress, I will introduce more grammar including verb conjugation and cases. I will also guide you to useful learning resources online - it is super important to get as much comprehensible Finnish input as possible!

Finnish Basics for Beginners

If you are already able to speak and write Finnish at A2-B1 level, this lesson will help you take your Finnish to the next level. In class, we will focus on the topics that you would like to practice: for example conversation/small talk, job interview, or any specific interest of yours. If you would like to strengthen your Finnish skills overall, we wil follow a structured class in PowerPoint with different topics of conversation. I will teach you useful phrases to use in different contexts, and you can practice talking in a supportive and safe environment. It is natural to feel nervous about talking, but we can find a way to get you started! 

I also offer YKI-testi prep classes where we focus on the different talking exercises that you will encounter in the test: kertominen, dialogi, tilannetehtävät, mielipide.

Conversation Practice

Do you need help proofreading your Finnish text, be it CV, job application, or any informal text? Or would you like to learn to write natural and convincing Finnish? If that's the case, this lesson is for you! Whether your Finnish is at an intermediate or advanced level, I can help you polish your texts. Different contexts require different styles, and as a native Finnish speaker and an experienced writer, I can help you set the tone right. If you would like to practice your written Finnish in general, I can give you writing assignments and text samples as well as useful vocabulary to go through in class.

I also offer YKI-testi prep classes where practice the different writing assignments that you might encounter in the test, for example kutsu, viesti, kirje, mielipideteksti, valitus, palaute ja hakemus.

If you're planning to take "Keskitason YKI-testi", which is requied for Finnish citizenship, I can help you there! I have guided several students through the test. The test consists of 4 parts, Writing, Reading Comprehension, Listening, and Speaking. I can provide you with more information about the test as well as practical tips! When getting ready, it's important to set realistic goals. It's also important to know which areas need most practice, and to practice in an efficient way.
