In this lesson, we will cover clever phrases and common slang that native-speakers use everyday. By the end, you'll have the skills to sound exactly like a native English speaker!

The focus of this lesson is learning and practicing key vocabulary that will bring your English to the next level in casual conversation. Expect your speaking and listening skills to grow as we use the vocabulary in real-life scenarios. You will also feel more comfortable and confident using slang terms and turns of phrase.

This lesson is conversation-based, with scenario practice as the main activity.

Real Life English: Everyday Phrases

Take your speaking skills to the next level by learning how to pronounce English to sound just like a native speaker. In this lesson, we will focus on learning the native accent of your choice, and how to reproduce those sounds. As a speaker of many different English accents, I can teach you how these accents are formed in the mouth, key sounds used in each, and accent-specific vocabulary.

We will use various different methods in the course, including pronunciation practice, video and audio references and written feedback. All course methods are custom designed to meet your preferences so you can achieve the greatest improvement in the shortest amount of time.

English for Work Conversations

I completed a 120 hour advanced training course comprising of 10 modules, covering topics including:

- English language teaching techniques.
- Lesson planning principles.
- Positive strategies for correcting learner mistakes.
- Language acquisition models and philosophies.
- Progress assessment techniques.
- English grammar structure.
- Pronunciation practice methods.

My college career was a blend of biology, environmental, education and Spanish classes. With a love for nature, and a passion for sharing my enthusiasm with others, I found my calling in an outdoor education course and have been teaching ever since!

For me, college Spanish courses that focused on text, audio and images from the real world were always the most engaging. I didn't just improve my Spanish skills, but learned the vital ingredients for learning a language effectively.

For two summers, I worked with the Summer Youth Corps program within the Conservation Corps of Minnesota and Iowa. The program emphasized career development for high schoolers through various natural resource projects across public lands in Minnesota. As the Education Activities Coordinator, I was responsible for developing and distributing learning materials to the various crews. Moreover, I managed the progress assessment for skills and knowledge of each member over the course of their term.

As a naturalist, I taught students from a variety of age groups and abilities – from preschoolers to adults – about the wonders of the natural world. I delivered lessons with a focus on interactive and student-centered activities to public elementary school students while designing and delivering public education programs for multi-age audiences. Often I presented lessons in Spanish and English to enhance understanding for students in mixed-language classes.

While in college, I was a teaching assistant for an environmental literature course. My role focused on supporting the professor through monitoring student progress during classes, offering review and editorial services outside of class, and contributing to lesson planning decisions.
