คำอธิบาย
Some speakers begin words that start with E or I with a light Y sound, and words that start with O with a light W sound: "egg" becomes "yegg", "eight" becomes "yeight", "only" becomes "wonly", "open" becomes "wopen". The glide is soft, but it sits at the very start of the word, exactly where your ear looks for the word's identity. A few pairs can even sound alike: "east" and "yeast", "ear" and "year". What you will learn: • Where the glides come from • A light Y before E and I • A light W before O • Pairs that can sound alike • Glides inside words, between two vowels • Glides between words • When you will hear it • Practice: decode the sentence • Listening strategies • Self-check questions to test your ear Level: B1–B2. Self-study: listen, then take the quizzes. Audio voiced with AI from an original script by Dr. Rashmi R Nair.
