Twenty Malayalam Sentence Frames — Learn the Frame, Swap the Slot | Learn Malayalam #274
คำอธิบาย
Fluent speakers do not build every sentence from scratch. They fill slots in patterns they already own. Here are twenty of them.
Research on formulaic language shows that a large share of natural speech is made of ready-made chunks. This class gives you twenty Malayalam frames — want, have, like, this is, where is, how much, can you, I need to, I can — so you can swap in new words and speak at once.
Words in this class:
എനിക്ക് ചായ വേണം (enikku chaaya venam) – I want tea
എനിക്ക് വേണ്ട (enikku venda) – I don't want it
എനിക്ക് പനിയുണ്ട് (enikku paniyundu) – I have a fever
എനിക്ക് മീൻ ഇഷ്ടമാണ് (enikku meen ishtamaanu) – I like fish
ഇത് നല്ലതാണ് (ithu nallathaanu) – this is good
ബസ് സ്റ്റാൻഡ് എവിടെയാണ്? (bus stand evideyaanu?) – where is the bus stand?
ഇത് എത്രയാണ്? (ithu ethrayaanu?) – how much is this?
ചില്ലറയുണ്ടോ? (chillarayundo?) – do you have change?
ഞാൻ വിളിക്കാം (njaan vilikkaam) – I'll call
പതുക്കെ പറയാമോ? (pathukke parayaamo?) – can you say it slowly?
എനിക്ക് പോകണം (enikku pokanam) – I need to go
എനിക്ക് വരാൻ പറ്റും (enikku varaan pattum) – I can come
എനിക്ക് ഇത് ചെയ്യാൻ പറ്റില്ല (enikku ithu cheyyaan pattilla) – I can't do this
In this class:
• Why chunks, not rules, are the engine of fluent speech
• Want, have, like, this is — and their negatives
• Where is, how much, is there, can you, would you do it for me
• Need to, can, and the frames that let you talk about yourself
