คำอธิบาย
Explaining a process, a system or a reason is what adults actually do at work, and it uses every connector you have learned at once. An explanation in Malayalam has a predictable shape, and this class gives it to you in six steps: an opener, sequence, causes, conditions and exceptions, comparison, and a check that the listener is following. Then a full model explanation of why Kerala runs short of water despite heavy rain. Then the situations where you will need this skill, from explaining your job to explaining your own country, and three techniques that work in any language. Words and phrases in this class: കാര്യം ഇതാണ് (kaaryam ithaanu) – here's the thing ഇത് ഇങ്ങനെയാണ് (ithu inganeyaanu) – it is like this ആദ്യം (aadyam) – first അതിനുശേഷം (athinushesham) – after that ഒടുവിൽ (oduvil) – finally അതുകൊണ്ട് (athukondu) – therefore, so മഴ പെയ്തതുകൊണ്ട് (mazha peythathukondu) – because it rained ഒഴികെ (ozhike) – except മിക്കവാറും (mikkavaarum) – mostly ഇതിന്റെ വ്യത്യാസം എന്താണ്? (ithinte vyathyaasam enthaanu?) – what's the difference? ഉദാഹരണത്തിന് (udaaharanathinu) – for example അതായത് (athaayathu) – that is to say സംശയമുണ്ടോ? (samshayamundo?) – any doubts? ഇതുവരെ ശരിയാണോ? (ithuvare shariyaano?) – is it right so far? In this class: • The six-part shape of an explanation, from opener to check • A model explanation: rain, rivers, paddy fields and dry wells • Explaining your work: name it, restate it simply, give an example • Start from the familiar, and keep one idea per sentence Quizzes below.
